uaeflagKnowing ahead of time how to obtain a Dubai visa is an excellent idea for anyone planning a visit to this interesting and unique member of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Dubai boasts a sunny and warm climate that is at its best during the months of January through May, and October through December. English is a language that you'll hear often in Dubai, which makes it easy for U.S. visitors to navigate their way around.

Visa requirements to enter Dubai are similar to the requirements for entering any state within the United Arab Emirates and vary depending on the length of your stay.

US citizens who meet all of the following criteria will not require a visa in order to enter Dubai: Those staying less than 1 month, who possess a round-trip airline ticket and have a passport that is valid for more than 6 months.

If you plan to stay more than 6 months, however, you will need to obtain a visa to in advance of your arrival. You can submit an application online by visiting the web site for the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Washington DC. For those who are unable to apply online, you may submit your application in person at the United Arab Embassy, which is located at 3522 International Court, NW, Suite 400, Washington, DC, 20008.

The following documents are required for a visa application:

  1. You must have a letter from a sponsor or host in the UAE, which shows your invitation to visit the country. Those invited by a company or organization must also have an invitation letter.

  2. You need a copy of the host's passport and their residency permit within the UAE for individual invitations or a copy of the business' license for business related invitations.

  3. Have a letter showing your employment status. If you will not be working, you'll need your bank to provide a letter testifying to your financial good standing.

  4. Show a cover letter which introduces yourself, explains the reason you wish to stay more than 6 months, and the specific reason for your visa request.

Filing an online application is a convenient process, as it allows you to attach digital copies of these required documents to your application form. After filling in the online application form, you'll receive an email verifying that you've received interim approval. You will then need to send, by postal mail, originals of the required documents, two signed copies of the application form and two passport photographs.
