U.S. citizens who wish to visit Egypt will need to apply for an Egypt tourist visa in addition to holding a current passport. Visitors to Egypt can apply for a visa upon arrival at any airport within Egypt. However, to avoid any unexpected delays, you would be wise to have obtained your tourist visa in advance.
A tourist visa for Egypt is good for up to 3 months and is not applicable to business travel, which require a different application and has different documentation requirements. A tourist visa can be obtained in advance from an Egyptian Consulate in the U.S. Such consulates exist in San Francisco, Washington D.C. and Houston. The cities of New York and Chicago also have Egyptian consulates. Which consulate to use depends on your state of residence within the United States. There are also numerous internet sites which offer application services.
To apply for a you'll need to have a valid passport which will not expire within the next 6 months. Be sure it has a blank page available for the visa, which is actually a stamp placed inside your passport. This stamp tells border officials that you've met the requirements for entry. Fill in the application completely and ensure all the information is legible.

Have at least one passport photo made to submit with your application. Fees are based on citizenship of the applicant and type of tourist visa. For U.S. citizens, both a single-entry and multiple-entry visa fee is $15.00. This fee is payable in cash, certified check payable to "Consulate of Egypt" or via money order. Applications which are mailed to an Egyptian Consulate must include a self-addressed pre-paid envelope for either certified mail or express mail. Once the application and supporting documents are received, expect a 2-day processing cycle.
If you're traveling in a group of at least 15 people, you may apply for a group tourist visa. This type of visa also requires the same application form but must also include a letter showing the letterhead of the travel company, all nationalities of applicants, and dates of departure and arrival. This letter must be notarized by a Notary public and requires an additional $25.00 processing fee. Additionally, a manifest of each passenger's name, passport number, date of issue and their nationality must be included along with a passport photo for each passenger.
