us-passport4At first glance, getting a US Immigration Visa may seem like a very difficult and time-consuming process. Fortunately, if you plan ahead and make sure you have all of the required documents and information; it will most likely be much easier than you anticipated.

As US visa allows you to travel to the United States of America. There are many different types of visas. An immigration visa is the document that you would need to obtain if you are planning to actually live and work in the US. There is a separate process for those who just want to visit the country but not live there.

To obtain an immigration visa, you need to have a US citizen needs to sponsor you. Acceptable sponsors are usually family members, spouses, or employers. The first step towards applying for a visa, is having the person sponsoring you file an I-130 petition on your behalf. Keep in mind that there are very specific requirements as to who can be a sponsor. Check with the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) office to determine who is eligible to sponsor you.

Once your sponsor submits the petition, it goes to the USCIS office for approval. If they approve the petition, it goes to the National Visa Center (NVC) to be processed. From there, the NVC will provide instructions to both you and your sponsor regarding how to proceed in your specific case. They may ask you to submit additional documentation or to have an interview. They will also ask you to pay processing fees. The NVC asks that these things not be done in advance as they can delay the process.

At some point in the process, the NVC will request that you have an interview at your embassy. Often, the NVC will schedule the interview for you. During the interview, they will ask to see originals of documents such as your passport, birth certificate, and marriage certificate if applicable. They will also ask for proof that you successfully completed a medical exam from an approved doctor. They may ask to see other documents and information, but they will tell you what they need.

Obtaining a US Immigration Visa is a complex process that can seem daunting. The best way to deal with this is to leave yourself plenty of time to complete the application process and to be as organized as possible. Fortunately, if you meet the criteria, the NVC will help you by letting you know exactly what they need. As long as you stay alert and pay attention to the correspondence from them, you will have no problems.
